“Pain and purpose are two sides of the same thing. A person struggling with depression is very likely a person yearning to feel fully. A socially anxious person is very likely a person yearning to connect with others. You hurt where you care, and you care where you hurt.”
Steven C. Hayes

What brings you here?

You may have decided that the time has come to get some help with some of the things that you have been experiencing.

It may be that you are unsure about what kind of help you need, but you know that you need to start somewhere.

Whether you have been feeling stuck in your thoughts, caught in old habits or patterns of behaviour that don’t seem to work anymore, or simply find it hard to connect with others in the way that you would like, I may be able to help you.

Whatever has brought you here, you have already made the first step towards an important change in your life.

I work with people who feel stuck, lost, or disconnected from themselves or their relationships. You may be experiencing:

  • Anxiety, panic attacks, or social anxiety

  • Obsessive thoughts, compulsive habits, or rumination (including OCD)

  • Low mood or depression

  • Relationship difficulties - either in your personal life or as a couple

  • Low self-esteem, shame, or questions around identity

  • The effects of a traumatic or aversive life event

  • Emotional strain related to a long-term physical health condition

Whether you're looking to do some work on your own - or with a partner - I offer a space to explore your experiences, reconnect with what matters, and begin to move forward - at your own pace, and in your own way.

How I can help

I’m Nathan – an accredited Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapist with the British Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP), and a Registered Mental Health Nurse. I have over 16 years’ experience as a mental health practitioner, including 14 years in the NHS prior to setting up Greater Sense Psychological Therapies in 2022.

I work with both individuals and couples from all walks of life - with many of my clients coming to therapy looking to navigate complex patterns of thoughts, habits and questions relating to their identity, values and their relationships.

Although I work with a range of different issues, I also have a special interest in working with obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD), issues relating to identity and self-esteem, and relationship difficulties.

I take a collaborative, flexible and person-centred approach to therapy, and my practice is based on evidence-based principles and ideas, drawing from training and supervised practice in the following models:

Individual Therapy

Personalised psychological therapy for you, drawing on evidence-based ideas and therapeutic approaches

Couples Therapy

Psychological therapy for couples, including the treatment of difficulties in one partner using couples therapy

Individual Therapy

Individual therapy begins with a personalised assessment of your current difficulties, which usually takes 2–3 sessions, though sometimes a little longer. This gives you the space to talk through what you’ve been experiencing and helps me to understand both your present concerns and the background to how things have developed over time.

We’ll agree together on therapeutic and values-based goals, and typically meet for regular weekly sessions. As we progress, I’ll invite you to reflect on how therapy is going at various points, and I’ll also review our work after each session, including through clinical supervision. We’ll always decide on the frequency and focus of sessions collaboratively.

Individual therapy sessions are 60 minutes as standard, and are charged at £100 per session.

90 minute sessions may sometimes be necessary, and are charged at £150 per session.

Couples Therapy

Couples therapy begins with a shared assessment, usually taking 3–4 sessions. This includes time together and individual sessions with each of you, giving space to explore what’s brought you here and the issues you’d like to work on. It’s a valuable part of the process, helping me to understand your relationship and how best to support you.

I use cognitive behavioural couples therapy (CBCT) to help with challenges like communication difficulties, loss of intimacy, or emotional struggles in one or both partners. We’ll agree on goals together and usually meet (usually) weekly, with regular check-ins to see how things are going and ensure therapy continues to feel useful for you both.

Couples therapy sessions are 60 minutes as standard, and are charged at £120 per session.

90 minute sessions may sometimes be necessary, and are charged at £180 per session.
